Last LouisvilleReunion Over

Janis and I first walked up the Bunting/Wearren hill to the big tent at the top in September 1981. We had met and had a life-altering experience with Norman Grubb the previous fall. The next few months I began corresponding with Norman by letter (remember those?); he kept talking up this conference held on “the grounds” of Dr. John and Linda Bunting, so we decided to take a chance and see what it was about. I didn’t know anyone personally who had “grounds,” (Norman’s  “English” showing through), so I imagined we were going to some fancy estate.

The conference started on Thursday evening in those days. I was working the second (3-11) shift at a yarn manufacturer at the time, so we left for Louisville after I got home from work that Thursday night. We drove all night to Louisville, not having a clue what to expect. I’ll never forget the scene when we drove up the first time, around 9AM Friday morning. There were three large houses atop a hill, not big fancy estates but certainly very nice roomy houses, at the time less than 10 years old. The hill was littered with scads of cars of various kinds, hardly anywhere left to park. Behind the middle house (I learned later was the Buntings’) by a tennis court, stood a large circus-style tent. There were nearly 300 people there, a lot of folks even for these “grounds.”

We walked into the side of the tent and found some seats. Norman was talking then, sitting in a big easy chair brought especially for him (he was about 86 at the time). We didn’t know a soul there except Norman, but when we saw and heard him speaking we knew we had stumbled upon something significant. We settled into some chairs and eagerly took in everything.

Little did we know that we would get to know many of these people quite well, and that we would be sojourning together for the next 30 years, and I expect also for the rest of our lives. But that conference altered our entire life’s course. We forged friendships and got into the flow of “Union Life.” We did not know at the time that the Lord had brought us to our life’s “work.”

And so it has gone since. It’s too long to tell the whole story. Except that we have gone in a sense full-circle. In 2005, John Bunting invited me to be his partner for the tours he had been making for years, speaking about Christ in you, as you.  We have been going ever since. We have regularly toured parts of the southeast, the northeast, upper Midwest, and a southwest tour that usually involves Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. We have also gone up and down through California most of those years as well.

And now there is no sign of stopping. Instead, there is a new push to get out there to where the folks are, in their homes, in their meetings, to testify of this total truth in Christ we have been given. John and I are currently putting together our next trip – looks like the northeast though starting in Atlanta, going north. We should have our plans finalized soon and will make our announcement. We have also talked about a return to Florida where we have not been together in about three years. Things are moving!

The Projects – Blog, book, audios, videos etc.

Everything is starting to hum and come together. The “Voice in the Wilderness” blog is going great guns. Over 25,000 views on the site, new people every day. As long as the articles keep coming to me, I’ll keep putting them out. I love to hear feedback on them, so please do not hesitate to write.

I just started a new project on an Internet Radio site – Spreaker. It gives me the ability to broadcast live-streaming audio anytime, as well as upload any audios I already have, available for listening anytime.

Yesterday I took the Galatians 2:20 six videos (<10 min each) on YouTube, and made one file for the whole video, and am making that available on a 57 minute DVD. Also, I took just the audio off the video file and it is now available on the new Spreaker site. I am also moving the ongoing (yes, I’m still doing it) Axe commentary to the Spreaker site as well.

I have started two “shows” on Spreaker“Voice in the Wilderness” (miscellaneous topics), and “The Axe Laid to the Root Commentary.” Both may be accessed through the link below. Once you choose the show, then choose whichever episode you wish.

Thanks Again!

As always, we are deeply and thankfully appreciative of all the supports from many of you. What is wonderful about finding “God only” is that included in that “God only” are the most precious people in the world whom we are able to call our friends. “God only” gives us everything, simply because when we receive everything through the Lord, we are free from possessive attachments, and are able to live in freedom ourselves and give our brothers and sisters the infinite freedom, too, that we find only in “God only.”
